After last week’s post about the Silver Alert system that some states have in place for wandering seniors (See 2/22), today I heard on the news that Washington State has initiated a Blue Alert system. The Blue Alert will let motorists know information about suspects who have injured or killed police officers, so the public can be on the lookout for them. In addition to highway displays, contacts in the media will be used.
Since Washington State already has in place a network to trigger an Amber Alert for a missing child, and now will use that network to issue a Blue Alert for law enforcement, it seems an excellent time to ask our legislators to use the same network for Silver Alerts! Call or write your representative today to ask for this protection for adults with cognitive impairments, dementia, or Alzheimer’s.
